FAQs

What is SkyGuard?

SkyGuard is a comprehensive, easy-to-use fleet location and tracking system that collects, stores and processes vehicle data, then delivers the information to fleet managers through a secure website.

How can SkyGuard help my business?

SkyGuard allows you to see at a glance the location, speed and status (such as engine idling time) of every vehicle in your fleet, in real time. This gives you the power to:

  • Dramatically reduce fuel costs
  • Eliminate misuse of fleet vehicles
  • Improve employee productivity
  • Make better, faster dispatch and routing decisions
  • Lower fleet operational costs
  • Increase revenue
  • Monitor and control your mobile assets

What does a SkyGuard system consist of?

  • A SkyGuard unit, which contains GPS and wireless technology, and is installed in each fleet vehicle.
  • The SkyGuard database, which stores vehicle information.
  • The SkyGuard secure website, where you can set up your fleets and vehicles, track and control your vehicles, and generate reports.

How does SkyGuard work?

  1. SkyGuard units automatically record data about the vehicles in which they're installed, such as speed, location, direction of travel, and engine status.
  2. SkyGuard units send their recorded data to the SkyGuard database using our wireless network.
  3. Authorized users at the subscriber company access the reported data through the SkyGuard password-protected website. The website also allows users to send ad hoc queries to SkyGuard units.

What can SkyGuard monitor?

In addition to monitoring speed, location and direction of travel, the SkyGuard unit that is installed in each vehicle has several inputs and outputs that enable customers to monitor the vehicle's systems. The inputs and outputs can be customized to monitor the systems of your choice and send custom alerts. For example, tow truck operators can receive an alert every time the lift on a tow truck is engaged, school bus companies can monitor every time the door of a bus is opened and operators of snow plow fleets can track when any of their plow's blades are lifted or lowered.

Is SkyGuard a good fit for my organization?

SkyGuard is the perfect choice for any local or regional fleet, including:

  • Delivery fleets
  • Service fleets
  • Utility fleets
  • Construction and contractor fleets
  • Taxi and limousine fleets
  • State and local government fleets
  • Public transportation fleets
  • School bus fleets
  • Any business that needs to minimize fleet costs and maximize fleet usefulness

What is a geofence?

A geofence is a geographic boundary that you define on the easy-to-use map screen on the SkyGuard website. Every time an assigned fleet vehicle enters or exits your defined geofence, SkyGuard can send you an immediate alert.

What is an alert?

SkyGuard can be set up to send notification alerts when certain events occur, such as when vehicles cross geofence boundaries, or when they exceed speed limits. Alerts can be sent via email or cell phone text message.

Does SkyGuard work everywhere?

SkyGuard units use GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to track vehicle locations, speed and direction of travel. GPS pinpoints location using a network of 24 public global satellites positioned above the earth's atmosphere. SkyGuard devices collect and store GPS and vehicle data regardless of their geographic location, as long as they can get a fix on the GPS satellites.
