Immediate gas savings and better productivity for American Door
American Door, an industrial garage door manufacturing and service company in Deer Park, New York, saw immediate savings in just their first month using SkyGuard Fleet, according to Vice President Marc Jurman.
“The first month we used SkyGuard, we saved over 7% on our fuel bill. We had the same jobs, the same vehicles, and fuel costs were about the same. So you've got to be crazy if you don't see how quickly this system pays for itself.”
Handling emergency calls was also a challenge for American Door. Managers had no way of knowing for sure where in the Tri-State area their 10 vehicles were at any one time.
“Now, every day we look at the SkyGuard screen and smile,” Mr. Jurman said. “The SkyGuard map automatically resizes, so we can visualize where all our trucks are on one screen. We can 'quarterback' our entire day, plan the most efficient routes. And when emergencies come in, we can send the closest truck to the job.”
Productivity has skyrocketed at the company. “As soon as we installed SkyGuard, all side stops by our drivers stopped.” Mr. Jurman said. “Now, no one ever 'gets lost' at one o'clock on a Friday, when they still have three hours to go on their shift.”
American Door had previously used another fleet system, “but it didn't have all the bells and whistles we need,” Mr. Jurman said. “SkyGuard has the in-depth reporting we need. We love the geofences, which we didn't have before. And we love that we can hit the space bar and turn off any truck. We haven't needed to, but we love that we can.”
Irvine Mechanical finds better technology and support with SkyGuard Fleet
Irvine Mechanical, a commercial HVAC mechanical contractor in Orlando, Florida, had used a fleet management system in the past to track their 17 vehicles. But, according to Controller Sanford Swan, they had problems with reliability and reporting.
“We researched the market for several years,” he said. The company ultimately selected SkyGuard Fleet, because “we were looking for a product from a company that had experience in the communications industry. We felt they would have a better understanding of what was required to accomplish the tasks we required.”
Mr. Swan said he's pleased with his new technology. “We have found the system more reliable than our old system,” he said.“Through the use of GPS and wireless technology, they are able to provide increased capacity and a better signal at a better price.”

Heritage Heating and Plumbing serves customers better with SkyGuard Fleet
Heritage Heating and Plumbing of Auburn, New Hampshire, uses SkyGuard Fleet to keep its 40 trucks running on schedule, said Information Systems Manager Charles Tapley.
“In our quest for a higher level of customer satisfaction, one of the biggest things we have to deal with is arriving on time,” he said. “If you give somebody an eight a.m. to ten a.m. timeframe, there's no excuse for not being there at eight. And that first call also sets the tone for your whole day. If you're late for the first call, you're late for the rest of the day.”
Heritage uses the system's automatic reporting feature to fine-tune its operations and improve efficiency. “We picked up 15 minutes here, a half-hour there, extended lunch breaks, things like that,” Mr. Tapley said. “In the end, we figure we probably paid for the system in the first year just in tracking down that time.”
SkyGuard Fleet tech support has been very responsive in responding to any questions, Mr. Tapley added. “I think if another company were to receive the level of service that we've gotten from them in making the most of the product, they couldn't go wrong. I wouldn't hesitate whatsoever to go with them. And, we've definitely seen an ROI.”
